A lot of people are struggling during the quarantine period, and it can be hard to maintain a positive and healthy mindset during such difficult times. But there are things you can do today – right now, even – to improve your mood and develop a healthy attitude and outlook on life that will stick with you!
I’ve put together this list of things you can do to improve your mindset that have really helped me over the last couple of years, and I’m sure they’ll help you too!
Keep reading for my best tips on how to develop a healthy and positive mindset:
1. Exercise More
Exercise releases endorphins in the body that make you feel happy and less stressed. Anything helps – going for a jog or even a quick walk at a fast pace, doing yoga at home, or following along with an online exercise class are all solid options.
The more you can work out during this rough time, the better! It will boost your mood and help you be more positive instantly.
2. Focus On The Solution, Not The Problem
This can be hard to do, especially during times like these, but work to develop a solution oriented mindset and your life will become so much easier.
Instead of sitting around stressing and worrying about the problem you’re experiencing, take that energy and direct it towards coming up with a way to solve the problem!
Remember that there are no dead ends in life, you’re just being redirected somewhere else. So if you have a problem or something isn’t working out, then maybe it just wasn’t meant for you and something way better will come along instead.
Whatever is happening in your life that you don’t like, just think about how you can improve the situation rather than being sad or down about the problem.
3. Practice Gratitude
You’ve probably seen this a lot everywhere recently and you might think it’s cheesy, but it’s actually really true. There are two ways to go about life – angry and upset over things that have happened to you and constantly thinking about your past or being unhappy about your current situation, or thankful for the blessings that you do have in your life and a positive attitude that you can use to improve anything you don’t like about your situation.
In the first scenario, you’re putting negative energy into the world and people can definitely perceive this and they react accordingly. As an example, let’s say you’re trying to get promoted at work. If you’re constantly in a bad mood at work and complaining about things, they might pass you up and promote someone else who you’re just as qualified as (or maybe you’re MORE qualified than them) just because that other person is a lot more fun to be around and easy to work with.
BUT, if you train your mind to see the good in everything then you’re going to be in a much better mood and happy a lot more often, which will in turn attract more good things into your life because you will become a pleasant and fun person to be around!
Remember, people WANT to do good things more often for people they like than for people who are ungrateful and complain too much! So even if you don’t believe in the science behind it with the “like attracts like” energy stuff, anyone can see that if you’re happy most of the time and thinking about how grateful you are to have things like a roof over your head and food to eat, then you’re going to be able to see more good in everything and attract more good as a result.
4. Get Enough (Quality) Sleep
This one is huge for me. If you’re not sleeping enough or sleeping well, you’re naturally just going to be crankier all throughout the next day.
You need to give your brain and body the full amount of time they need to recover from the previous day and recharge throughout the night.
For you, that could mean you need 9 hours of sleep every night – everyone is different! But I would say that most of us need 7 hours at bare minimum, and 8+ is optimal.
Since most of us are quarantined and not working at the moment, now is the time to get your sleep schedule back under control and get healthy!
I have a post all about how to get your beauty sleep to help boost your mood and give you glowing skin, so read that if you need help sleeping better!
5. Laugh
At the end of the day, laughing is one of the best things to relieve stress and help you develop a more healthy and positive mindset.
Put on a show like Friends or something that you find hilarious and just laugh! You’re guaranteed to feel better, more positive and optimistic after.
