It seems like as you get older and there are more and more things to be stressed out about, it can get more difficult to get a good sleep at night! This has definitely been the case for me, so this list of simple tips to get better sleep should give you a clearer idea of how to improve the quality and length of your sleep so that you can be better focused and more present every day.
I recently had a couple of really bad periods of insomnia where I was completely unable to fall asleep for a lot of the night, and I used these easy tips to really get that under control and pretty much eliminate these issues with my sleep altogether! 5 Simple Tips To Get Better Sleep
1. Put Your Phone Away
This is easily one of the things that has helped me the most and one of my favorite super simple tips to get better sleep, and it’s putting my phone away anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour before I’m planning on going to bed. The blue light from your phone’s screen disrupts your circadian rhythm and can trick your brain into thinking it’s still daylight, and therefore it can be a lot harder to fall asleep if you’re looking at your bright screen right before!
I used to be completely addicted to being on my phone RIGHT up until I went to bed, and I’ve since been able to correct that bad habit by replacing my phone with a good relaxing book.
2. Do Your Journaling
Writing down your thoughts before you go to sleep can be such a calming and peaceful activity, because we all just have way too much on our minds at all times and journaling is the best possible way to clear out some space in our heads and get it all organized in front of us.
This journal is my absolute favorite of all time because of the way the pages are set up. You have the top section of each page that’s designed to be filled out first thing in the morning, and then the bottom section at night before you go to bed. It enables you to jot down some quick thoughts about your day, how it went and what you want to improve for the next day!
3. Light A Few Candles
For me, this is the thing that creates a super relaxing vibe in my apartment and allows me to chill out and start to get sleepy. It reminds me of being in a spa, and within about 15 minutes or so of sitting in the dark with my candles lit, I usually will start to get super tired and ready to head off to sleep.
This is a really simple tip to get better sleep that I think works for pretty much everyone, and it makes your apartment smell amazing! 🙂
4. Read A Good Book
Going along with what I mentioned above about getting off your phone before bed, it really does help to have a good book to read a few pages of each night before you go to bed. I find that reading really helps you forget about your problems and anything making you anxious, and you get so caught up and invested in what’s going on in the book that it’s like you’re taking a quick break from your own life! Sometimes that’s exactly what’s needed 🙂
5. Drink Some Calming Tea
I love to pour some green or chamomile tea about three hours before bed – I always make sure not to do it much later than that because it can disrupt your sleep by making you need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, which we do not want.
Drinking your favorite tea is such a nice relaxing activity that sets a super nice tone at night, and depending on what kind of tea you drink, it can also be full of antioxidants to fight inflammation and even protect you from free radicals that can potentially cause cancer!
