Today’s post is more quarantine content, because I want you guys to thrive and be so successful after this time in our lives is over! I have some tips on how you can adopt a healthy lifestyle during social distancing that I hope you guys will find useful.
These tips have helped me over the last three plus weeks, so try them out and let me know how they work for you:
1. Set A Goal
Why exactly do you want to adopt a healthier lifestyle? What is your end goal? It could be weight loss, or it could just be to feel better physically and mentally.
Whatever your reason or purpose, create a measurable, achievable goal out of it and set a deadline for yourself.
This could be that you want to lose 10 pounds within the next 6 weeks, it could be that you want to drive less and walk more, or anything you want.
Whatever it is, just make sure you outline it in steps of how exactly you’re going to get it done and hold yourself accountable.
2. Gradually Increase Your Physical Activity
If you’re looking to start a healthier lifestyle, it’s going to be easiest to do it gradually instead of all at once.
My best advice would be to start small – the little steps add up quick! For example, start going for a 15 minute walk every day. Do this for a week straight, and then increase it to 20 minutes the next week, then 25 the next, then 30 the next. Ease yourself into being really active and it will come naturally pretty fast!
I have a post on how to stay fit during quarantine that might be helpful for some of you.
You can also do small things like parking in the far spots at the grocery store! This is great for social distancing purposes as well, since almost everyone crowds the closest spots to the store. Or, you can even walk to the grocery store instead of driving. All of these little things will develop a healthier lifestyle over a short period of time.
3. Have A Vegan Day Every Week
By now we know that eating plant based is one of the best possible things you can do for your physical health.
If you’re not sure about going vegan full out, then just have a day or two each week where you eat 100% plant based and see how you feel and how you like it!
Check out my What I Eat In A Day As A Vegan post for some meal ideas and recipes!
The key here is to eat whole, plant based foods if you’re trying to improve your lifestyle. Many types of popular packaged cookies are actually vegan, but eating these isn’t going to make you any healthier! You want to be eating tons of leafy greens and other veggies, fruits, and whole grains.
4. Take Care Of Your Mind
It’s tough to start a healthier lifestyle when your mind isn’t in the right place. If this is the case for you, switch your mindset. Instead of worrying about things you can’t control, like this pandemic, focus on all the things you’re grateful for.
If you have a computer or a phone that you’re reading this on, that’s awesome! Many people aren’t lucky enough to have either of those things. If you have a warm bed to sleep in, that’s something that most of us take for granted too.
Think about all of the great things you have in your life, and feed your mind with positive information from blog posts, podcasts, or inspiring books.
5. Focus On The Bigger Picture
I think at the end of the day, the first thing we all have to do is sit down and ask ourselves whether this one or two month long period in history will really matter all that much long term.
Does it really matter that you can’t go out to the mall or to the movies for just a few short weeks? No. Could your time be better spent doing other, more productive things instead? For sure! Check out this list of productive things to do at home if you need some ideas btw!
We all miss being able to go out and do things, but in order to start a healthy lifestyle during this time of social distancing, it’s important to keep in mind that we’ll be able to do all of those fun things again very soon, and this short term sacrifice can actually be used to your advantage if you use your time wisely!
